Exposing Russian Propaganda Up to East @Cafe Kyiv
Cafe Kyiv is a unique, interdisciplinary and multifaceted congress and one of the most outstanding Ukraine-related events in Europe. The third edition of the congress, held under the motto “We choose freedom”, will take place on May 11 at Colosseum Berlin.
Within the framework of the congress, bpb, in cooperation with Vitsche e.V, is curating a program that investigates the means and effects of Russian propaganda and disinformation.
We are taking Café Kyiv's multimedia format by presenting a special program in two parts.
In the panel “Weapons of Slow Destruction: Russian State Propaganda”, we will talk with the historian Franziska Davies, the journalist Alexej Hock and finnish counter-disinformation expert Pekka Kallioniemi about mechanisms of russian state propaganda and its global impact in highly contested political times.
The second part of the program features a screening of Kornii Hrytsiuk’s latest documentary “Zinema” which explores decades of propaganda in Russian fictional cinema that has promoted wars against sovereign states since 1991. After the screening, director Kornii Hrytsiuk, producer Yevheniya Kriegsheim, ARD correspondent to Ukraine Vassili Golod and historian Andrii Portnov will reflect on the film’s insights into the role of culture in shaping narratives of war and imperialism.
The discussions will be moderated by Eva Yakubovska (Vitsche).
The event will be held in English.
