The New Synagogue was built in the late 19th century. With 3200 seats, the architectural monument was one of Berlin’s most significant landmarks of its thriving Jewish community. Services were held here until 1940, when the building was confiscated by the Nazis. Today, the building houses the Centrum Judaicum, a museum and information center where you can learn about different aspects of Jewish life in Berlin during the Nationalist socialist era, stories of self-assertion and resistance as well as biographies of Jewish Berliners.
