Where will histoCON 2025 take place?
histoCON 2025 will be held at the Alte Münze in Berlin, located at Molkenmarkt 2, 10179 Berlin. The Alte Münze is a former mint situated along the Spree River in Berlin-Mitte. It has been repurposed as a cultural quarter, offering space for artists, cultural events, and various creative endeavors. The venue provides a unique blend of historical architecture and modern cultural spaces, making it an ideal setting for histoCON 2025.
Who can join histoCON?
Participants must be 18–27 years old by May 5, 2025.
International participants need valid travel documents, including a passport and, if required, a visa. Please check your country’s entry requirements for Germany at the Externer Link: German Foreign Office.
I am younger than 18 or older than 27. Can I still apply for histoCON 2025?
Unfortunately, histoCON 2025 is specifically designed for participants aged 18 to 27. This age range ensures the event focuses on fostering dialogue and collaboration among younger generations. The age limit helps create a cohesive group dynamic and allows the program to focus on the experiences, interests, and learning styles of young adults within this range. While direct participation may not be possible, we encourage you to follow our updates on social media and share the event with eligible individuals in your network.
What language is the event in?
All sessions and workshops will be in English. Fluency in English is required.

How do I apply?
Fill out the on the bpb website during the application period. Include a photo that connects to World War II and its remembrance. Only applications in English will be considered.
I participated in a previous histoCON. Am I eligible to apply for histoCON 2025?
Yes, participants of past histoCON editions are welcome to apply again. However, please note that while previous participation is not a disqualifying factor, it also does not guarantee selection for histoCON 2025.
The selection process is based on a variety of factors to ensure a diverse and inclusive group of participants. Applicants must also meet all the eligibility criteria, including being aged 18 to 27 at the time of the event.
Can I upload a picture I found on the internet or one created using AI for the application?
No, the photo you upload must be your own creation or one for which you hold all necessary rights to share. As part of histoCON, your photo will be included in a collective exhibition showcasing diverse perspectives and personal connections to World War II.
We encourage you to contribute an image that represents something you associate with World War II—this could be a photo of an object, a place, a family heirloom, or documentation with personal significance. Drawings or other creative works are also welcome, as long as they are submitted in jpg, jpeg, or png format.
By uploading your photo, you confirm that you are the original creator or hold the rights to share it. If claims arise against the bpb due to third-party rights infringements, you agree to indemnify the bpb in full, including covering any legal costs. Thank you for ensuring that your submission complies with these guidelines!
What is the Travel Allowance?
Participants receive a flat-rate travel allowance based on their country of residence. The amount is reimbursed in euros at the event and does not require receipts. You can find a list of the various countries and the respective flat rate payments here:

What are the conditions for the Travel Allowance?
Attend all sessions from May 5, 6 PM, to May 8, 9 PM.
The allowance is only paid at the end of the event; no prepayments are made.
What expenses does the travel allowance cover?
You can use it for all costs that occur to you like transportation, visa fees, and travel insurance. If your costs exceed the allowance, you’ll need to cover the extra.
What should I know about applying for a grant for histoCON 2025?
Grants are available for histoCON 2025, but they are limited and awarded based on careful evaluation of applications. If you are considering applying for a grant, it’s important to reflect on your situation and the requirements associated with it. Grants cover travel expenses, with travel booked directly by the organizers, and include a one-time remuneration of €150 for a creative contribution that must be submitted before the event.
When applying for a grant, keep in mind:
You will need to submit a creative contribution (e.g., an essay, podcast, or artwork) that connects to the theme of WWII and its ongoing impact on the present and future. This must be completed and submitted by March 5, 2025, following the guidelines provided by the organizers. Like all applications, you must also submit a photo that illustrates your personal connection to World War II or its remembrance, in line with the submission rules. A grant might be the right choice if:

Remember, you cannot apply for both a grant and a travel allowance. Please choose the option that best fits your situation and follow the guidelines closely to increase your chances of success. The decision to award grants is at the discretion of the organizers and based on the strength and relevance of the application.
I am applying for a Grant. Can I send my essay or creative work before the application phase is over?
No, please do not send any essays or creative works before the application phase is completed. These contributions will only be required from selected grantees after the application process. Thank you for your understanding!
Can I extend my stay in Germany so that I arrive before May 5 or depart after May 9?
If you apply to take part in histoCON and make use of the Travel Allowance, you can choose your travel dates individually. However, you must attend the entire histoCON (May 5, 6 p.m. to May 8, 9 p.m.) in order to receive the Travel Allowance. The stay in Germany outside the histoCON event times must also be financed entirely by yourself. If you apply for a grant, we can only book flights for May 5 (exception: long flights require an arrival on May 4) and departures on May 9 (there is no extension option).
What about accommodation and food?
Participants will be provided free accommodation in shared double rooms, separated by gender. You are free to make alternative accommodation arrangements at your own expense. If you do not wish to take up the offer of accommodation, please inform us in good time. Meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, will also be offered free of charge throughout the event. Please note that only vegetarian and vegan food options will be available.
What happens if I cancel?
If you cancel after confirming your participation, notify us immediately. Late cancellations or no-shows may result in charges for travel or accommodation costs. Travel insurance is recommended.
