Hope for Democracy – 25 years of participatory budgeting worldwide contains a collection of case studies of international participatory budgeting projects. Originally published in Portugese, it is now available in English. The translation of the book was conducted by an international team of authors on behalf of the German Engagement Global gGmbH / Service Agency Communities in One World.
The book gives an overview of studies around the globe which analyse various aspects of participatory budgeting processes. In their contributions, the 32 international experts deal with the architecture of PB processes in their part of the world, for example the projects‘ objectives and impacts on democracy and public administration. The book also highlights global trends in the development of PB.
The original initiative for the book came from Nelson Dias, the leading director of IN LOCO, a Portuguese non-governmental organisation.
