An anonymous Japanese imageboard website, known for its user-generated content and discussions, similar to 4chan.

AI

Artificial Intelligence; the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems.

AI ethics

The branch of ethics that examines how artificial intelligence systems should be designed and used, focusing on issues such as fairness, accountability, and transparency.

AI learning

The process by which AI systems improve their performance and capabilities through experience and data.

AI training models

Algorithms and datasets used to train AI systems to recognize patterns, make predictions, or perform tasks.

Algorithm

A set of rules or procedures for solving a problem or performing a task, often used in computing and data processing.

API

Application Programming Interface; a set of rules and tools that allows different software applications to communicate with each other.

Bot

A software application that performs automated tasks, often on the Internet, such as posting content or gathering data.

Censorship

The suppression or prohibition of speech, communication, or information deemed objectionable or harmful by authorities.

Chatbot

A computer program designed to simulate conversation with human users, often used in customer service or information retrieval.

Critical thinking

The ability to analyze information objectively and make reasoned judgments based on evidence and logic.

Crowdsource

The practice of obtaining information, input, or services by soliciting contributions from a large group of people, typically via the Internet.

Data Center

A facility used to house computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems.

Dataset

A collection of data, typically organised in a structured format, used for analysis or training machine learning models.

Debunker

A person or tool that exposes the falsehoods or inaccuracies in a claim, rumour, or piece of information.

Debunking

The process of disproving or exposing the falsehoods of a claim or belief.

Decision tree

A flowchart-like structure used for making decisions, where each branch represents a possible outcome or choice.

Deep fake

Media (usually video or audio) that has been manipulated using artificial intelligence to make it appear as though someone said or did something they did not.

Disinformation

False information spread deliberately to deceive others.

East Asia

A region in Asia that includes countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Mongolia, and Taiwan.

Estimated Internet penetration

An estimate of the percentage of a population that has access to and uses the Internet.

Fact-checking

The process of verifying the accuracy of information or claims to ensure they are truthful and reliable.

Fake news

False or misleading information presented as news, often with the intent to deceive or mislead.

Freedom of speech

The right to express one's opinions and ideas without censorship or restraint, as protected by law in many democracies.

Grassroot movement

A social or political movement that originates from the ordinary people at a local level rather than from leadership or elite groups.

Hate rallies

Public gatherings organised to promote or incite hate against individuals or groups based on attributes like race, religion, or nationality.

Hate speech

Speech that attacks, threatens, or discriminates against individuals or groups based on attributes such as race, religion, sexual orientation, or nationality.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China.

Information literacy

The ability to recognize when information is needed and to locate, evaluate, and use that information effectively.

Information vacuums

Situations where there is a lack of reliable information, which can lead to the spread of rumours or falsehoods.

Japan

A country consisting of a group of islands in East Asia.

LGBTQ+

An acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning, with the plus sign representing other sexual orientations and gender identities.

Leaked (information)

Information that has been disclosed or made public without authorization.

LINE messenger

A popular messaging application developed by LINE Corporation, used for text, voice, and video communication.

Me Too movement

A social movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault, particularly in the workplace.

Media literacy

The ability to access, analyse, evaluate, and create media in various forms.

Misinformation

False or misleading information spread without intent to deceive.

Misleading

Providing incorrect or deceptive information that may cause someone to form an inaccurate understanding or belief.

Nan-J

A group of anonymous users in Japan that has been engaged in reporting hate videos online.

Natural disasters

Severe and extreme weather events or geological occurrences, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods, that cause significant damage and disruption.

Newsworthy

Worthy of being reported as news due to its relevance, importance, or impact.

Online discourse

Discussions or conversations that take place over the internet, often on forums, social media, or other digital platforms.

Open source tool

Paywall

A system that prevents access to certain online content unless a subscription or payment is made.

Politically sensitive

Issues or topics that are likely to provoke strong reactions or controversy due to their implications for political interests or affiliations.

Rumours

Unverified information or stories that are spread from person to person.

Scams

Fraudulent schemes designed to deceive individuals and obtain money or personal information.

Source code

The human-readable instructions written by programmers that make up a software program.

Super apps

Mobile applications that integrate multiple services and functions, such as messaging, social media, and payment services, into a single platform.

Taiwan

Taiwan, officially the Republic of China (ROC), is a country in East Asia.

Third-party

An entity or individual not directly involved in a transaction or situation but who may influence or be affected by it.

Verify

To confirm the accuracy or truth of something through investigation or evidence.
