Upon the centenary of the beginning of the "Great War" as it is called in many European countries, you will possibly ask yourself this question more often in 2014. Museums will open special exhibitions, television stations will broadcasts documentaries and films, on the internet you will find countless blogs and tweets, scientists and scholars will research, publish, and discuss things - and what will you be doing?
Are you between 18 and 25 years of age? Are you interested in history and politics? Do you want to find answers together with other young Europeans to the question what this period in history means for you personally and for your generation? Then take part!
Up to 500 young people from all around Europe with an interest in the subject will gather from 7 until 11 May 2014 at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in the city centre of Berlin. At this event, you can discover how 1914 is connected to 2014 and how the memory of the First World War relates to you and your life today. What does "remembrance" actually stand for and what does it mean to the individual and for the whole of Europe? What is peace is to us yet, where does it come from and how we can keep the peace? Simply join in, pose your personal questions and find answers together with other young European citizens!
At the on-site workshops you will discuss and do research, shoot films and edit sounds, act out roles and perform, write scripts and narrate them and so much more. You can find the workshop programme
In addition to the workshops, there is a broad range of activities on offer which make you aware of very unusual references to historical and current topics. This includes a diverse cultural programme including performances, concerts, exhibitions, stage plays and readings, theme-based exploration of the city of Berlin and much more. This comes with a campus flair and meeting many interesting young people from all over Europe!
